Garland Technology Visibility Solutions
A network TAP is a purpose-built hardware device that allows customers to access and monitor their network traffic by copying packets without impacting or compromising network integrity. The TAP allows network traffic to flow between its network ports without interruption, creating an exact copy of both sides of the traffic flow, continuously, 24/7, 365. The duplicate copies are then used for monitoring and security analysis.
Network Packet Brokers (NPB) are devices that broker incoming network traffic to any number of security, application performance monitoring, or network forensic tools. NPBs are designed to deliver only the traffic of interest required by any specific tool, which they achieve through a combination of filtering, aggregation, and load balancing of the traffic to the tool.
The Bypass TAP was developed specifically to resolve the problem of an inline security appliance causing a single point of failure in the network. This TAP will keep the link flowing if the inline tool were to go off-line for any reason, through the use of heartbeat packets that check the health of the inline security appliance. This TAP will also keep the link flowing even if the TAP were to lose power, a feature commonly referred to as failsafe, an important benefit most inline tools don’t currently provide.
